A
  • autoimmune condition
  • sup-epidermal blistering of skin
  • secondary to development of antibodies against hemidesmosomal proteins BP180 and BP230
  • more common in elderly

Features of bullous pemphigoid

A
  • itchy, tense blisters (often around flexures)
  • blisters heal without scarring
  • stereotypically no mucosal involvement (mouth is spared)
  • biopsy showns IgG and C3 at dermoepidermal junction

A
  • refer to derm for biopsy and diagnosis confirmation
  • oral corticosteroids
  • topical corticosteroids
  • immunosuppressants
  • antibiotics
