Bullous pemphigoid
A
- autoimmune condition
- sup-epidermal blistering of skin
- secondary to development of antibodies against hemidesmosomal proteins BP180 and BP230
- more common in elderly

Features of bullous pemphigoid
A
- itchy, tense blisters (often around flexures)
- blisters heal without scarring
- stereotypically no mucosal involvement (mouth is spared)
- biopsy showns IgG and C3 at dermoepidermal junction

Management of bullous pemphigoid
A
- refer to derm for biopsy and diagnosis confirmation
- oral corticosteroids
- topical corticosteroids
- immunosuppressants
- antibiotics
