Equations: Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Cardiac Output
CO = SV x HR
Ejection Fraction
EF = (EDV - ESV)/EDV = SV/EDV
EDV = end diastolic volume
ESV = end systolic volume
Stroke volume
`SV = EDV - ESV
Compliance
Compliance = ΔV/ΔP
ΔV = change in volume
ΔP = change in pressure
Velocity of Blood Flow
v= Q/A
v = velocity (linear)
Q = flow
A = cross-sectional area
Resistance
Resistance = ΔP/Q
ΔP = change in pressure
Q = volume flow
Poiseuille’s Law
Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR)
TPR = ΔP/Q
ΔP = change in pressure across the circuit or organ
Q = volume flow
Blood Pressure
BP = CO x Peripheral Resistance
Starling’s Equation
Fluid Movement (Ultrafiltration) = k[(Pc + πi) - (Pi + πp)
Pc = capillary hydrostatic pressure
Pi = interstitial fluid hydrostatic pressure
πp = plasma protein oncotic pressure
πi = interstitial fluid oncotic pressure
k = filtration constant for the capillary membrane
Mean Arterial Blood Pressure (maBP)
maBP = diastolic + ⅓ PP
diastolic = bottom of BP (lower pressure)
PP = pulse pressure
Pulse Pressure (PP)
Systolic - Diastolic
if BP = 120/80 → PP = 40
