Equations Flashcards
Defines Boyle’s Law
At a constant temperature the absolute pressure of a fixed mass of gas is inversely proportional to its volume
What is the equation for Boyle’s law
P1V1 = P2V2
Define Henry’s Law
The amount of gas dissolved in a liquid at a given temperature is directly proportional to the partial pressure of the gas
What is the equation for Henry’s Law
C = k x P
C = solubility of a gas at a fixed temperature in a particular solvent (M or ml gas/L)
K = henrys law of constant (M/atm)
P = partial pressure of gas (atm)
Define Dalton’s Law
Total pressure of a mixture of gas is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of all the gas components
What is the equation for Dalton’s Law
PTotal = Pgas + all of them
What are the partial pressures of O2 and N2 at sea level
N2 = 0.78ata
O2 = 0.209ata
What are the partial pressures of O2 and N2 at 10 msw
(x2 as 2 atm)
N2 = 1.56atm
O2 = 0.418atm
Breathing in air at 10msw is the equivalent of breathing in what % at sea level
42%
Define Laplace’s law
The pressure within a cylinder or sphere is proportional to the surface tension divided by the radius
What is Laplace’s law equation
Pressure = ST / R
