Epinephrine 1-1000 Flashcards
Epinephrine 1:1000:class
sympathomimetic
Epinephrine 1:1000:route
subcutaneousIVPB drip (rarely)
Epinephrine 1:1000:adult dose
Asthmatic Bronchoconstriction:0.3 mg- 0.5 mg sqAllergic Reaction/Anaphylaxis:0.3 mg- 0.5 mg sqProfound Bradycardia:2-10 mcg/min IVPB continuous infusion, titrated to effect; mix 1 mg in 500 mL of NS or D5W
Epinephrin 1:1000:pedi dose
asthmatic bronchoconstriction:0.01 mg/kg SQ; max of 0.3 mg per doseallergic reaction/anaphylaxis:0.01 mg/kg SQ; max of 0.3 mg per doseprofound bradycardia:0.1 - 1 mcg/kg/min IVPB continuous infusion, titrated to effect; mix 1 mg in 250 ml
Epinephrin 1:1000:drug actions
alpha-peripheral vasoconstriction-increases BP in anaphylaxis-decreases vessel permeability-increases coronary and cerebral perfusionbeta 1-increases heart rate-increases contraction strengthbeta 2-bronchodilation
Epinephrin 1:1000:indications
asthmatic bronchospasm refractory to Albuterol and Atrovent;allergic reaction/anaphylaxis;profound, symptomatic bradycardia refractory to other treatments
Epinephrin 1:1000:precautions
monitor ECG closely;massage the site vigorously after SC injection;patients on beta blockers may need higher doses of epinephrine and/or Glucagon
Epinephrin 1:1000:side effects
increases myocardial oxygen demand;tachycardia;HTN;myocardial ischemia/infarction;chest pain;arrhthmias;headache/flushing;nausea/vomiting;restlessness;tremors
Epinephrin 1:1000:contraindications
asthma:heart disease/history of AMI;over 45;arrhythmias;laborallergic reaction:none
