Patho: seizure disorder
Abnormal electric discharges from cerebral neurons
Characteristics: convulsive movements and loss of consciousness

What is the cause of epilepsy ?
A
75% are idiopathic
20% secondary to brain damage ( trauma, anoxia (abscence of oxygen) ,infection , cva, neoplasm
5% isolated seizures due to acute conditions ( fever, hypoglycemia, electrolyte imbalance , acid base imbalance, ETOH
