20
Q

Explain why Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-step programs is an efficiency program to reduce alcohol dependence

A

First, this therapy is based on one of the pillars of EBP, which states that clinical expertise and scientific validation should be given as much weight as the patient’s wishes and preferences.
If we focus on the patient’s choices, we increase the patient’s intrinsic willingness and thus adherence to treatment.
Then, therapy is a time of social and emotional exchange. This makes the person feel supported and motivates them in their recovery.
Finally, this therapy is based on certain principles of CBT such as increasing intrinsic motivation. CBT is a scientifically validated therapy. Thus, we can assume that the AA program is based on scientific validity.

21
Q

Explain why Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a better program to reduce alcohol dependence

A

If science has been able to prove it, then it works. This is a guarantee of reliability.
This therapy seeks to prevent external (environmental) factors in order to better prevent relapse. The patient, by being aware of his or her external factors and by managing to control them, feels more autonomous and competent, and thus breaks the cycle of addiction.
