Q

What are the techniques for the Sound film techniques

A

Technique : Non-Digetic sound(voilin vs digeroodoo)

During the song “This land is mine”
- It is evident that there is two strong instrumnets including the violin and the didgerodoo. This ultimitly hints towards the conflict between Jim Ryan and Albert. The overlapping of the violin and didgerdoo can be heard as the current fight for the land and their believes of who owns the Land. The symbolism of the Didgerdoo hints towrds alberts backround, and the violin towards Jim’s. This is because the voilin are known for thier middle to high class connection.

Q

Distinct features - Limited narrative voice Quotes

A
  1. “I do not tell lies…It is because I cannot tell lies”
    Technique : Toneless expression
Analysis: Christopher uses a toneless expression to which gives readers a huge perception of what its like in Christophers world. His single sentences hint towards what his thoughts and values are. For example the use of a toneless expresssion shows his actual beleifs in the way he sees the world, he likes it to be viewed as straight forward. The lack of tone shows the audience his world and his interpretation from it.

“So I would be feeling sad about something that isn’t real and doesn’t exist”
Technique: Lack of emotive language ( First person narration)

Analysis: Highlights the distinct nature of the limited narrative voice, his language lacks emotive language, drawing sympathy from the reader. This furthermore shows Christophers absorbtion of the world but ironically, his detachment from it. He feels a distinct perception in that he can’t feel sad about someone who is no longer there but does not apprectiate the fact that they are gone is the reason to feel sad in the first place.

Q

The Evidence used for CIDN, Aspects of form - Use of Images and diagrams

A

Technique: “ Emoticons”
Emoticons are symbols that are used to convey emotions. This is used in the second chapter of the book, when siobhan, asked Christopher what these facial expressions meant.

Analysis: Hadden uses it to show how christopher can’t identify emotions. Draws sympathy.

Technique: “And it was a big, pointy shape and looked like this, (image drawn)”
Technique: The inclusion of images.

Analysis: Images are used throughout the novel to help christopher explain his thoughts and patterns. Unlike normal novels, Haddon makes christopher directly reference these images.
