ENGINE OIL Flashcards
Type of system
Self contained, pressurized, recirculating dry-sump
Scavenge pump
Returns oil from the sumps and AGB to oil tank
Oil system components
Oil tank Oil Supply and scavenge system Oil Filter and condition monitoring system Air/oil cooler (scroll vanes) Chip detector Pressure and temperature indicators
How is oil picked up
By suction created through the pressure element of the pump
Path of oil
Oil tank Engine driven oil pump Oil filter Sumps or Cold-oil relief valve then AGB AGB to Scroll vanes Sumps to Fuel oil cooler to scroll vanes OR Sumps to Oil cooler bypass valve Oil tank
How many sump bearings
Six main sumps
3 for C
1 for B sump res with check valve and screen before
2 for A sump res
How many sets of oil jets
2
Redundancy of oil jets
brief period of operation following a malfunction or damage that totally interrupts the normal supply of oil
Scavenge oil path
pump inlet, electrical chip detector, fuel/oil cooler, the main frame, scroll vanes, and into the oil tank
Oil filter
Disposable filter element
Impending bypass PDI
Bypass sensor switch will activate the bypass caution
Thermal lockout of PDI
38 degrees
prevents the indicator from popping during cold-weather ops
Oil cooler location
Mounted on the face of the AGB
Oil cooler heat transfer
Transfers heat from the oil to fuel
Function of scroll vanes
Act as air/oil cooler
Further cools oil
Heats the vanes for full time anti-icing
Engine chip detector function
Attracts ferrous metal particles and completes the electrical connector sending a signal to the cockpit
