Engine Failure and Airstart Flashcards
What annunciators will you expect to see for an engine failure?
GEN
OIL PX
OBOGS FAIL
FUEL PX
How fast will N1 indicate 0%
Within 5 seconds
At what % does N1 not indicate any speeds?
8%
What 3 conditions must be met in order to attempt an engine restart after a failure?
No:
Fire
Frozen
FOD
At 200 knots, how much altitude can you expect to gain from a proper zoom (engine out)?
600-900 ft
Below what airspeed are zoom effects negligible?
150 KIAS
What pitch angle should you achieve for a zoom-to-eject?
20 degrees
How do you determine if there is evidence of an engine fire?
Fire light and/or:
Fluctuating oil/hydraulic/fuel px Excessive ITT Visual Indications Erratic engine operation Roughness or vibrations
How do you determine if your engine is frozen?
If you are showing N1 or hydraulic pressure it is not frozen
What must you use caution around checking when determining if your engine is frozen?
Oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge may read up to 4psi with or without the engine seized.
How many feet will be lost during an airstart attempt and how long will it take?
1200 ft
Approx 40 seconds
Should you attempt an airstart on a minimum glide profile?
Be warned against doing it. Consideration should be given to not attempt an airstart if on a minimum glide profile because repeated airstart attempts will result in excessive altitude loss.
What are the two airstart envelopes?
Sea Level to 15,000: 125 KIAS to 200 KIAS
15,001 to 20,000: 135 KIAS to 200 KIAS
At what altitude should you not attempt an airstart?
Any altitude below 2,000 ft AGL
Why must the PCL be OFF during an airstart attempt?
To ensure proper starter, boost pump, ignition and PMU operation during the airstart
