Endomembrane System Flashcards
Endomembrane System
- essentially the transportation + product processing section of the cell
- compartmentalizes cell
- components: nuclear envelope, ER, GA, vesicles
Secretion
Process that allows products made by the cell to leave
Step 1
DNA used as template to transcribe into mRNA
Step 2
mRNA leaves nucleus through nuclear pores & enters RER
Step 3
Ribosome (rRNA + protein in 2 subunits) reads mRNA strand & work w/tRNA to create a polypeptide chain
Step 4
Completed polypeptide chain passes into RER where it is modified into a secondary structure
Step 5
Packaged into transport vesicle & shipped to GA
Step 6
Transport vesicle merges w/GA & polypeptide chain is further modified as it moves through the inner & outer faces
-protein is completed
Step 7
Packaged into secretory vesicle & shipped to plasma membrane
Step 8
Secretory vesicle merges w/plasma membrane & releases contents
-type of exotysis called secretion
