What are the procedures for grounding?

A
  • First response:
     Call the Master.
     Make a Navigational risk assessment.
  • Action when you observe a vessel aground:
     Call the Master.
     Call the engine room and stop the engines.
     Make a navigational risk assessment.
     Check the echo sounder.
     Aid the other vessel.
  • Action if our vessels run aground:
     Call the master.
     Sound the general alarm.
     Close all watertight doors.
     Manoeuvre as appropriate or stop engines.
     Consider using an anchor.
     Use and exhibit Aground lights, shapes, and sound signals.
     Inform the port authority.
     Muster crew.
     Assess the tides, currents, and type of seabed.
     Make a log in the logbook.
     Make soundings to all tanks.
     Send a distress message.
     Reserve VDR and ECDIS records.

What are the procedures for GPS spoofing & Jamming, ECDIS Input Failure, ECDIS Failure?

A

 Call the Master and Inform the Engine room.
 Engage hand steering. Then do one of the following….
* GPS spoofing or jamming + ECDIS GPS input failure – Start position fixing.
* ECDIS Speed Log Input Failure – Change to ‘Manual speed’ input.
* ECDIS Gyro Input Failure – Steer on Magnetic Heading.
* ECDIS Failure – Change to backup ECDIS.
 Follow the critical checklist.

 Switch Radar to Head Up (if not automatic).

 Inform Master.
 Maintain a log of events.

A

 Inform the bridge.
 Find the source and stop the source.
 Contain spillage, prevent overboard spillage.
 If OOW:
 Find out details (location, source, quantity…).
 Call Master.
 Sound general alarm and muster crew.
 Inform ECR (shut off valves and pipes as needed).
 Carry out reports or call for assistance ashore as needed.
 Maintain a log of events.
