Embryogenesis Flashcards
What are the four steps of embryogenesis?
fertilization cleavage blastulation Gastrulation neurulation
What is fertilization?
penetration of sperm with ovum to become a 2N zygote
What is cleavage?
the repeated mitotic subdivision of the zygote in to a morula (16 blastomeres). the cytoplasmic mass does not grow so each blastomere is smaller
What is blastulation?
the morula develops into a blastocyst _ a fluid filled cavity that implants itself into the uterine lining
What is Gastrulation?
formation of the primary three germ layers the embryo is called a gastrula
Ectoderm
Endoderm
Mesoderm
What is neurulation?
when the neural plate and neural folds close to create the neural tube
What does the Ectoderm develop into?
epidermis and nervous system
What does the mesoderm develop into?
bone, connective tissue, muscle, blood
circulatory, reproductive, and excretory organs
what will the endoderm develop into?
epithelial linings of the respiratory and digestive death
glands of accessory organs
