Elbow Region Flashcards
Flexion & extension of forearm
Reinforced by ulnar by ulnar collateral ligament
Injury: abnormal abduction of forearm
Humeroulnar joint
3 articulation among humerus, ulnar & radial bones
Humeroulnar joint
Humeroradial joint
Radioulnar joint
Flexion & extension of forearm
Reinforced by radial collateral ligament
Injury: abnormal adduction of forearm
Humeroradial joint
Pronation & supination of forearm
Reinforce by annular ligament
Radioulnar joint
Severe distal traction of the radius (yanking a child’s arm) –> subluxation of radial head
SSX: flexed, pronated forearm held close to the body
Reduction: apply direct pressure posteriorly on the radial head while supinating & extending the forearm
Nursemaid elbow
Inflammation of common extensor tendon of the wrist where it originates on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus
Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
Inflammation of common flexor tendon of the wrist where it originated on the medial epicondyle of the humerus
Median epicondylitis (golfer elbow)
Damages the contents of cubical fossa:
- median nerve
- brachial artery
- biceps brachii tendon
- median cubical vein (superficial to bicipital aponeurosis)
- radial nerve (deep to brachioradialis muscle)
Supracondylar fracture of the humerus
