Dry, red itchy and sore patches of skin over flexor surfaces - inside elbows and knees and face and neck
How do emollients work eczema?
Create artificial barrier over skin to compensate for defective skin barrier
Use as often as possible esp after washing and before bed, as thick and greasy as possible
What should patients avoid with eczema?
Bathing in hot water
Scratch/scrubbing skin
Soaps and body washes that remove natural oils in the skin
How are flares of eczema treated?
Thicker emollients
Topical steroids
Wetn wraps
Antibiotics in severe illness
Speciaist treatments in eczema
Zinc impregnated bandages
Topical tacrolimus
Phototherapy
Systemic immunosupressants eg oral corticosteroids, methotrexate and azathioprine

Potent - Betnovate (betamethasone 0.1%)
Very potent: Dermovate (clobetaspl propionate 0.05%)
