ECG Flashcards
which heart sound is heard in early diastole
S3
which heart sound is heard in late diastole
S4
S3 heart sounds are associated with what diagnosis
CHF
can be seen with athletes and pregnant woman
aka ventricular gallop
(
what is associated with s4 heart sounds (diagnosis)
HTN
pulmonary HTN
MI
L ventricular hypertrophy
L ventricular end diastolic pressure
pulmonary stensis
P waves means what
atrial depolarization
QRS complex means what
ventricular depolariztion and atrial repolariztion
T waves means what
ventricular repolariztion
When would you call 911 when working with a patient
regardining cardiovascular
3rd degree AV block
more than 2-4 couplets/min
3+ PVC in a row
V tach
V fib
ST depression > 2mm
ST elevation > 1mm
multifocal PVC
1st degee AV block
PR interval is greater than 1 large box (>0.2 sec)
seen in athletes with increased vagal tone (activity)
generally wont progress, benign condition
2nd degree block, type 1
PR interval is increasingly getting larger and a drop occurs.
when do you stop an exercise and refer (not immediate)
1 couplet (2 consequative PVCs together with no normal beat between them)
2 degree block type 2
A Fib
symptomatic A flutter
2nd degree block, type 2
PR intervals are constant and a QRS is dropped
unexpected
no pattern
3rd degree AV block
no symmetry/relationship
the atrial rate is independent of ventricular rate
emergency
what to do if you notive a first degree AV block
exercise wise
continue exercise
what do you do when you notice a 2nd degree block, type 1 during exercise
monitor and continue with lower intensity
what do you do when you notice a 2nd degree block, type 2 during exercise
stop exercise
what do you do when you notice a 3nd degree block during exercise
stop immediatelt and activate emergency
compare R v L side HF symptoms
R: peripheral edema
L: respiration symptoms
think about the circulatory system. the R side receives from the body. if there is something wrong with the heart, than there is pooling in the extremeties becasue they have no where to go.
with L side HF, fluid gets stuck in the heart which will show as SOB, couching, respiratory symptoms
what occurs to the ST segment if it is depressed? elevated?
depression >2mm = ischemia
elevation >1mm = infarction
do you stop an exercises with A flutter?
with symptoms: yes, stop but not emergency
without: no, monitor and continue at lower intensity
do you stop exercises wih A Fib
yes but not emergnecy
do you stop an exercise with PAC?
no symptoms: monitor and cont at lower intensity
do you stop an exercises with A Tach
no, monitor and continue at lower intensity
PVCs that occur with 3 or more in a row is called what
v tach
