Shaking of the head, scratching of the ears, malodor of the ear canal, stenosis of the ear canal

Atopy, food allergy, seborrhea, earmites, foreign body

Inhaling allergy categorized by scratching, Paw licking, face rubbing.
What is a food allergy
And allergy due to hyper sensitivity of certain foods and food additives
What is seborrhea
Categorized by the excessive production of oil in the skin and the formation of greasy or dry scaly skin.
What is ear mites
A parasite which commonly causes the onset of otitis externa
What types of yeast are found in otitis externa
Malassezia and candida
What type of bacteria are found in otitis externa
Staphylococcal or streptococcal
What is the benefits of topical otic anti-infective agents
Antibacterial or antifungal properties. Often contain anti-inflammatory agents that reduce inflammation and decrease pruritis
What is special about gentocin preparations
Possible ototoxicity because gentamicin is an aminoglycoside. Do not use in the presence of ruptured eardrum’s

Tetracaine

Enhances the product by speeding up percutaneous penetration of the active ingredients
What is the clinical use for chloramphenicol
Include treatment for acute otitis media externa and pyoderma in dogs and cats
What is something that special about Chloramphenicol
Cannot be used in animals raised for food production
What is one of the adverse side effects for neomycin
Ototoxicity. Do not use in presence of ruptured ear drum
