E4: Antagonistic muscle pairs Flashcards
what is the origin?
-an attatchment site/tendon that does not move during contraction
-close to the centre of the body
What is the insetion?
-an attatchment site/tendon that does move during contraction
-far away from the centre of the body
whats the agonist?
prime mover, this musle contracts to produce the desired movement
what is the antagonist?
the muscle that relaxesto allow the agonist to contract
what is the synergist?
the muscle that assists the agonist in producing desired movements
how does the synergist assist the agonist?
works with the insertion to stabilise the muscle movements to keep them even and control action
what does the fixator do?
Fix the muscle in place and make sure the body is in the correct position to produce the movement
how does the fixator fix the muscle in place?
stabilise the origin
