E1-Lymph Flashcards
REVIEW: Origin of Lymph Cells in embryology?
Yolk Sac Islands
What are the two primary Lymphoid Organs?
1.Thymus 2. Bursa of Fabricus
Since we are not birds where are B cells developed in Mammals?
Bursa Equivalent
What are the 4 places of Bursa Equivalent?
- GALT (Gut Associated Lymphoid Tissue) 2. Tonsils 3. Peyers Patches of the ileum 4. appendix
What are the 3 secondary Lymphoid organs?
1.Lymph Nodes 2.Spleen 3. GALT(Gut Associated Lymphood Tissue)
What are the QB cells of inflammation? What do they “pass out”?
T-Cell Lymphocytes, pass out lymphokines
What are the mediators of Humoral Immunity?
Antibodies from B-Cells
What is parenchyma?
Functional Lymphoid Tissue
Diffuse lymph tissue = ?
T-cells!
Nodular Lymph tissue = ?
B-cells!
What are the two components to a nodule?
light central Germinal Center, darker surrounding cap
Are there reticular fibers in primary lymphoid organs? AKA is there nodular tissue in PRIMARY lymphoid organs?
NO. DIFFUSE ONLY (T-Cells). (no b-cell nodules)
Does the secondary lymph organ contain diffuse and nodular tissue?
YES! diffuse=T, nodular =B
Why is the medulla of the thymus “lighter” in appearance?
Because its only Diffuse tissue! (no “thick” nodules)
What corpuscles are unique to the THYMUS ONLY? What veggie is used to describe them?
HASSAL’s Corpuscles! AN onion!
What might be the function of the corpuscles in the Thymus?
Hassal’s corpuscles might take part in t cell death
What is the substance in the cortex of the thymus that generates t lymphocytes? (logical name!)
Thymo-Poietin
What happens to Hassal’s corpuscles in the thymus once the thymus starts to die at puberty?
Hassal’s Corpuscles ENLARGED (adipose tissue)
What is the PRIMARY lymphoid organ where the Bursa Equivalent resides? (The rest of Bursa Equivalent are in secondary lymphoid tissues)
GALT (Gut Associate Lymphoid Tissue)
Where are nodules in lymph nodes? Where is the diffuse tissue in lymph nodes?
B-cell nodules in the cortex…T-cell diffuse in the medulla
What is the concave aspect of a lymph node that is thick Connective Tissue? What is found here?
HILUS..Blood Supply to Lymph node
What is the main structural substance of the lymph node medulla? What type of WBC is found here?
Cord (AKA sinus!)! Macrophages!
Where does lymph ultimately end up after going through lymph nodes?
the neck region/venous circulation
What two cells remove 99% of impurities in lymph nodes?
Macrophages and Dendritic Cells
