If the drug passes the animal test it will be tested on humans.
Then it will be tested on healthy humans incase of bad side effects on sick patients. A very low dose is given and if it works they use it on sick patients to find the optimum dose that works

Some patients are given a fake drug to test the placebo effect. This gives the doctor a more accurate result.
Sometimes both patient and doctor dont know who has the drug until the results to remove being byast.
Other doctors are used to prevent false claims
