Drug Class
Antipsychotic – Acts on the alpha and dopamine receptors, resulting in sedation

Indication
- Disturbed and Abnormal Behaviour (RASS 1 ~ 3) where risk to safety is evident and de escalation has not been effective.

Contraindications
- Known allergy
- Known Parkinson’s Disease
- Post Ketamine
- Age < 6 years old
- Post-ictal Disturbed & Abnormal Behaviour
** Droperidol **
Preparation
IM - Do not dilute
**IV **- Dilute 10/2ml with 8ml NaCL (1mg/ml)
** Droperidol**
IM (preferred route)
Dose
Adult < 70 yrs
* 5mg (moderate to severe alcohol intoxication)
* 10 mg (nil to mild alcohol intoxication)
Repeat as necessary every 15 mins total max dose 20mg/24 hrs ( all routes)
Switch to IV midazolam only if necessary once total max dose is reached.
Adult > 70 yrs or frail, dementia patients
- 2.5mg (moderate to severe alcohol intoxication)
- 5mg (nil to mild alcohol intoxication)
Repeat as necessary every 15 mins total max dose 10mg/24 hrs ( all routes)
Switch to IV midazolam only if necessary once total max dose is reached.
Paediatric 6 - 16 yrs
0.2 mg/kg (max bolus 5mg)
Repeat as necessary every 15 mins total max dose 10mg/24 hrs (via all routes)

Repeat as necessary every 15 mins to a Total max dose 20mg/24 hrs ( all routes)
Switch to IV midazolam only if necessary once total max dose is reached.

Repeat as necessary every 15 mins to a total max dose 10mg/24 hrs ( all routes)

- Extrapyramidal effects / Dyskinesia
