Drug Class
Anti cholinergic Agent:
Inhibits the parasympathetic nervous system allowing an unchallenged sympathetic response.

*** Symptomatic Bradycardia **
* Hypotension
* Altered conscious state
* Diaphoresis
* Shortness of breath
* Cyanosis
* Syncope
* Pale skin
* Organophosphate poisoning

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Atropine
- Patients with cardiac transplant

Preparation
Symptomatic Bradycardia - Un diluted
Organophosphate Poisoning - Dilute 1.2 mg/1 mL with 11 mL saline for 1.2 mg/12 mL (100 microg/mL)

Symptomatic Bradycardia
Dose
Adult - IV/IO 0.6 mg in 0.5 mL every 3-5 minutes (Total max dose 3 mg)
Paediatric - ASMA Consult required
Atropine
organophosphate poisoning
Dose
Adult - IV/IO, 1-2 mg (10-20 mL)
Repeat every 5 minutes until atropinisation
Paediatric - IV/IO, 0.02 mg/kg
repeat every 5 minutes until atropinisation

- Agitation
- Hallucinations
- Dilated Pupils
- Dry mouth/dry skin/reduced bronchial secretions
- Tachycardia
