DNA Replication Flashcards
Define gene
A base sequence of DNA that codes for the amino acid sequence of a polypeptide or functional RNA molecule
Define genome
The complex set of genes in a cell
Define proteome
The full range of proteins that a cell is able to produce
Define chromosome
Chromosomes are thread-like structures located inside the nucleus of animal and plant cells. Each chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
Define histone
Histones are a family of basic proteins that associate with DNA in the nucleus and help condense it into chromatin. Nuclear DNA does not appear in free linear strands; it is highly condensed and wrapped around histones in order to fit inside of the nucleus and take part in the formation of chromosomes.
What base does RNA have that DNA doesn’t?
RNA has uracil while DNA has thymine
What does a ribonucleotide look like?
?
What organelle make ATP during aerobic respiration in eukaryotes?
Mitochondria make ATP for respiration
What are complementary base pairs held together by?
Hydrogen bonds
What is an ATP molecule made up of?
3 phosphate groups
A ribose (pentagon)
Adenine (rectangle)
