DNA replication Flashcards
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid. The molecule that carries genetic information for the development and functioning of an organism.
Free DNA nucleotides
Sugar, phosphate, and nitrogen base complexes that are unattached to a DNA or RNA strand and are available for base pairing.
DNA helicase
Helicases are enzymes that bind and may even remodel nucleic acid or nucleic acid protein complexes.
DNA polymerase
Enzymes that create DNA molecules by assembling nucleotides, the building blocks of DNA.
Semiconservative
After one round of replication, every new DNA double helix would be a hybrid that consisted of one strand of old DNA bound to one strand of newly synthesized DNA.
Replication
The process by which a double-stranded DNA molecule is copied to produce two identical DNA molecules.
