What is diverticulosis?
Herniation of mucosa and submucosa thru the muscular layer of the colon
Two general causes of diverticulosis?
Increased intraluminal pressure and defects of the wall of the colon
People with what conditions are predisposed to diverticulosis?
Those that have connective tissue disorders (Marfan, Ehlers-Danlos)
Typical Syx of diverticulosis?
Generally asymptomatic
What is diverticulitis? What is the probable cause?
inflammation at the base of a diverticulum resulting from retained fecal material
Syx of diverticulitis?
Persistent lower abdominal pain and fever following perforation of a diverticulum
