Belbin studied teamwork and observed that people tend to assume different team roles
The 9 roles he observed are fall into to categories of; Action Orientated, People Orientated and Thought Orientated
The roles are;
Shaper - dynamic extroverts who challenge the team to improve
Implementer - turn ideas and concepts into practical action
Completer/Finisher - see that projects are completed thoroughly without error or omission
Co-ordinator - traditional team-leader role
Team Worker - provide support and make sure people work together effectively
Resource Investigator - innovative and curious
Plant - creative innovator
Monitor Evaluator - analysing and evaluating ideas
Specialist - specialised knowledge needed to get the job done

Why is diversity important in a team?
Wider experiences and cultures - all learn together therefore better product / service
Different individuals have different skills - providing for a better overall ability and service.

What are inclusive communications
Consideration for the language used in formal communications - not to discriminate or exclude a group of / individuals.
How does partnering and collaborative working effect a team
Promotes openess and working together towards a common goal.
What are your business internal diversity and inclusion policies?
Equality and diversity policy which includes anti-harrassment and anti-discrimination and promotes regular unconsious bias training.
Promote an open door culture that encourages all staff to talk and disucss issues openly and support other members of staff.
In the process of researching and drafting a business fertility treatment support policy.
Encourge young individuals into construction along with Women.
What is unconcsious Bias
Bias/ judgements created by our own perceptions, culture, stereotypes, upbringing and life experiences - being aware of these and how these can effect our judgements aloows us to make more informed factual decisions.
What types of sterotype are there?
Affinity - when you share qualities
Conformity - views swayed by others & seek acceptance
Beauty - Based on the way someone looks
Confirmation - Searching for something to confirm a pre-determined opinion
Gender - preference over one gender than the other
Halo - focus on one postive feature
Horns - focus on one negative feature
How to over come unconsious bias
Judge individuals on own merits
Take time during decision making
Write down opinions to ensure awareness
Include a variety of people in decision making
Improve others awareness of equality & diversity
- What is the difference between diversity & inclusion?
a. Diversity – the characteristics and things that make us all different
b. Inclusion – is making everyone feel welcome
- What is RACI in teamworking:
a. Roles & responsibilities in teams & for projects
Responsible: The person in charge of the process.
Accountable: The person the responsible person reports to and who must sign off on decisions. NB: Occasionally A is taken to mean ‘Assists’, that is, someone who assists the responsible person.
Consulted: People who will be involved in discussions about the process.
Informed: People who will need to be told about the process.

- Painstaking, conscientious. Searches out errors.
- Polishes and perfects. Can be inclined to worry unduly, and reluctant to delegate.
- They could be accused of taking their perfectionism to extremes.
