- I am part of Gender Equity Network where we campaign for gender equality e.g. parental leave is 6 months for mothers and fathers
When have you worked as part of a team?
Currently I am working on the Plot 78 RMA submission. I am working closely with the Project Manager to delegate responsibilities to different consultants. I then work closely with each consultant to ensure we have clearly communicated the deliverables and deadlines. This is a team effort to submit a coordinated RMA.

RICS, RTPI, RIBA and CIOB have signed a Memorandum of Understanding Action Plan (MoU) intended to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive sector.

-Organisations determine reasons for poor performance through data collection and education.
How does the Bichard Review relate to D&I?
Requires the RICS to improve diversity and inclusivity in decisions and action relating to its governance

- Plan a clear map of where your team wants to go, share goals as individuals with team and work together
- Create a good team culture (internal diversity and inclusion policies, including anti-harassment or anti-discrimination)
- Stick to policies
- Inspire and keep work interesting
- If you are in a management position, try and delegate / offer training
- Don’t be a bad boss, makes team less successful
- Set the right tone
- Accountability goes both ways
What is unconscious bias?
Unconscious (or implicit) bias is a term that describes the associations we hold, outside our conscious awareness and control.

How to overcome unconscious bias?
- Be aware of it
- Multiple steps in recruitment
- Diverse recruitment panel
- Justify decisions with evidence
- Work with a wide range of people and get to know them as individuals
- Focus on positive behaviour of people rather than negative stereotypes
- Employers should implement policies that limit the influence of individual characteristics and preferences
- Communication / collaborate / contribute / encourage all members of the team to contribute
- Some of these might involve negotiation, remember to stand your ground
- Avoid bombarding colleagues with emails
