What else was raised in the Bichard Review
- a renewed and increased focus on the public interest remit of the RICS, including amending the royal charter to create a public interest panel.

What do you do to actively contribute to D&I?
Home - I have assisted in coaching rugby for children with learning difficulties for my local rugby club.
Work - I take part in mentoring for students looking to receive work experience to help develop their careers, as well as assistance in improving their CVs
What else did you learn during your CPD on Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace?
- Micro Behaviours - not acknowledging someone (behaviours with people you have an affinity or not)
- Anti-racist - ally system - proactively tackling racism if you hear it
- Micro-agressions - commenting on someones hair, or mispronouncing names
What is unconcious bias?
Social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness.
Ways to avoid unconcious bias?
- being actively aware of it
- advertise jobs in multiple locations to reach different backgrounds
- blind sifting (holding back certain information such as names to not give away gender etc)
- having an interviewer on the phone so no visual stereotyping can occur
- keep a record of how decisions are made - audit trail

What are the 4 types of discrimination under the Equality Act 2010
- Direct Discrimination
- Indirect Discrimination
- Harassment
- Victimisation
What is the difference between direct and indirect discrimination?
Direct - when a person is treated less favourably because of a protected characteristic
Indirect - an act that puts someone of a protected charactieristic at a partilcular disadvantage without intention.
What is lawful discrimiation?
Only certain discriminations can be justified and the equality act states that there has to be a legitimate aim.
Example would be saying “a surgeon requires 10 years experience, which may indirectly discriminate on a mother who took time off to care for kids, however a hospital can be able to prove that this job requires this level of experience”
What does the Modern Slavery Act require from firms?
Certain commercial rganisations must puiblish an annual statemewnt setting ot the steps they take to prevent modern slavery in their business and their supply chains.
What criteria of commercial business is required to fill out a modern slavery statement?
