A

A board in the SCC where an ET places their man below tally, which indicates the compartment they are working in.

* MGR ( Contaminated oil tanks)

  1. Check hazard log sheet
  2. Get ppe

Define confined spaces

A

A confined space is a compartment which has remained unventilated for more than 24hrs
eg: Fuel,water,ballast tanks and STP’s

Hazards & precautions of confined spaces

A

Hazards include- Gas,vapour or fumes from contents
Precautions-
* Use a Leader gas monitor placed at head height (Tests for methane,oxygen and hydrogen sulphide) visual & audio alarm
* Space is cool
* Space is force ventilated for 24hrs min
* Test atmosphere after 24hr
* If still unsafe ventilate for a further 12hrs
* Gas free certificate is obtained
* PPE is worn
* Sentry with a BA posted outside
* Comms with sentry
* Lifeline worn
* No smoking
