Ventral (anterior); (breastbone anterior to spine)

Dorsal (posterior); (heart posterior to breastbone)

Lateral; (arms lateral to chest)
Between more medial and more lateral structure
Intermediate; collarbone intermediate between breastbone and shoulder
Closer to origin of body part or point of attachment of a limb to body trunk
Proximal; elbow proximal to wrist
Farther from origin of a body part or point of attachment of a limb to body trunk
Distal
Toward or at body surface
superficial (external); skin superficial to skeletal muscles
Away from body surface; more internal
Deep (internal); lungs deep to skin
