Diagnostic immunology Flashcards
1
Q
Define monoclonal antibody
A
an antibody produced by a single clone of cells and consist of identical anitoby molecules
2
Q
define hybridoma and their use
A
- fusion of cultured myeloma (cancerous B cells) with antibody producing spleen cells
- Use: can be used to culture large amounts of identical antibodies (monoclonal)
3
Q
what is Serology
A
use of serum antibodies to detect and measure antigens or vice versa
evaluates antibody and antigen interaction
4
Q
define Immunoassay
A
assays or test which use immunological reagents like antibodies and antigens
5
Q
define seroconversion
A
6
Q
what are the serological test that use antigens and corresponding antibodies
A
- precipitation test
- agglutination test
- neutralization test
- complement fixation test
- labeled antibody test
7
Q
what are the essential elements of a diagnostic test? (definition too)
A
- Sensitivity: probability that test is reactive if the specimen is a true positive
- specificity: the probability the test will not be reactive if the specimens is a true negative
