Q

What is the layer just superficial to the mantle dentin? What is it made up of? What kind of dentin?

A

Interglobular or Globular Dentin. Made up of calcospheres (spheres that are highly calcified). Primary dentin.

Q

What is the odontoblastic process? Where does it extend? travels through?

A

The cellular extention of the odontoblast. Extends through the predentin, dentin, and even enamel. Travels through the future dentitial tubules.

Q

What are enamel spindles?

A

Extensions of the odontoblastic process that pass into the inner enamel.

13
Q

What is the peritubular dentin and intertuubular dentin?

A

Peritubular=hypermineralized found on outer edges of the odontoblast.
Intertubular=Primary product, lies between tubules.

15
Q

How does the dentin mineralize?

A

Odontoblast release matrix vesicles containing hydroxyapetite crystals. they rupture, and crystal grow and fuse with one another.

16
Q

When odontoblast die, what are left?

A

Dead tracts.

17
Q

What is sclerotic dentin? Why does this happen?

A

Dentin with tubules occluded with a calcified material called whitlockite. Body mechanisms to protect pulp.

18
Q

What are lines of Von Ebner?

A

Growth lines of dentin.

19
Q

What is the neonatal line?

A

Line seperating enamel/dentin formed before birth vs after birth.

20
Q

What is the Granular Layer in root dentin? Also known as?

A

Junction between dentin and cementum. Also called Granular Layer of Tomes.
