density Flashcards
1
Q
density equation
A
density = mass/ volume
2
Q
how do you measure the density of an irregular object
A
- find out the objects mass
- fill the eureka can with water just to the top of the spout
- place an empty beaker under the spout
- drop the object in the EUREKA CAN
- measure the volume of water that was displaced.
- repeat and take an average then calculate density with equation d= m\v
3
Q
how do you calculate the density of a regular object
A
- find the mass of the object
- use a ruler or vernier callipers to measure the width, height and length of the object and find out the volume
- do repeats and find an average
- use the equation to find out the density
4
Q
units of density (2)
A
g/cm cubed
kg/m cubed
5
Q
the density of the object depends on
A
what its made of, not its size
6
Q
the density of an object determines if the object will
A
sink or float
7
Q
a solid object will float on a fluid if it has a _____ density than the fluid
A
lower
8
Q
a solid object will sink if it has a _____ than the fluid
A
greater
