Define delusional disorder?
Patients have a crystallized, often single delusion
They do not have hallucinations or thought disorders like schizophrenia
Delusions cannot be substance induced, medical condition driven, or be part of any other mental disorder
What is a Capgras Delusion?
Delusion where patient feels someone has been replaced by an imposter
What is a Fregoli Delusion?
Patient holds a delusional belief that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearance or is in disguise
What is vampirism and Lycanthropy?
Vampirism= delusion that one is a vampire
Lycanthropy= delusion that one is a werewolf
What is Folie a Deux?
Shared delusion–> syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief are transmitted from one individual to another
“Madness of many”
What is the difference between Folie Imposee and Folie Simultanee?
Folie Imposee–> Likely has the delusion
Folie Simultanee–> incorporates delusion into his/her life
What is Cotard’s Delusion?
The delusion that one is dead, do not exist, missing organs
What is krokodil?
Heroin like drug that rots flesh and bone
What is morgellons/ delusional parasitosis?
Somatic delusion/ paranoid delusion
Parent believes they are infested, can see and often see or feel parasites in or on them
What are erotomanic delusions?
Affected person believes that another person is in love with him/ her
How are delusions treated?
Antispsychotics, psychotherapy
