Clinical signs of MCPA poisoning
- fatigue, nausea
- D+, vomiting
- anorexia
- ataxia, tremors
- increased body temp
- hyperventilation
- hypoxemia
- opisthotonus (spasm of muscle causing backward arching of head, neck & spine)
- stiffness of hind legs
- paralysis
- coma
Symptoms of salinomycin intoxication
- acute intoxication connected with CNS stimulation
- spasms & exitus
- discoloured urine
- muscle weakness
- depression
- incoordination
treatment of salinomycin intoxication
no specific antidote, just removal of food with medicine
Strychnine is
spasmodic poison (of rodents)
Treatment of paracetamol poisoning
Gastric lavage:
- activated charcoal (absorbent)
- oral N-acetylcysteine (antidote)
- cathartic (physiological relief)
Determination of monensin
detected on chromatographic plate (sprayed with alcohol solution of aniline & sulphuric acid) –> forms dark pink stains
Determination of salinomycin
dark purple stain on pale background
Cyanide is determined by
Steam distillation:
- test with Berlin blue –> blue/dark blue colour or precipitate if +
- test with picric acid –> orange-brown colour
Fujiwar’s reaction (included under steam distillation) is used for determination of
Chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons ( + = pink or red ring)
