day 11 - max + submax VO2 tests Flashcards
what is the only way to measure VO2 max
in a lab, everything else (1.5 mi run, 1 mi walk etc) are all estimates
maximal + submaximal field tests can provide a reasonably, BLANK, BLANK and BLANK method of estimating CRF via estimated VO2 max
provide a reasonalby reliable, valid, and accurate
12-min run for distance test: what is the relationship between distance and VO2 max
postive
the longer you run in 12 minutes, the higher your estimated VO2 max is
1.5 mile run for time: what is the relationship between distance and VO2 max
negative
the longer it takes you to run 1.5 miles, the lower your VO2 max is (and vise versa)
which test is more motivating: 12 min run for distance or 1.5 mile run for time
1.5 mile run for time
advantages of maximal vo2 testing
1) high coorilation to accurate VO2 max measured in lab
2) low cost
disadvantages of maximal vo2 testing
1) risk is higher than submaximal testing
2) subjects must be highly motivated
3) pacing is a factor (exept shuttle test)
4) test are population and sport/mode specific
5) environmental factors can influence results
