Companies involved in the production of sherry wines are called Bodegas. They are registered within three different categories.
They may belong to only one or multiple.

It also called almacenistas, and mature wines.
They must be located in the Zonda de Crianza. Amount of wine they mature tend to be relatively small. The wines must be sold to Ageing and Shipping Bodega.
Many almacenistas went out of their business due to decline in sherry sales (as demand reduce, shipper survive using their own stock not using almacenistas’s wine). In 1996, Consejo Regulador lowered the minimum stockholding for companies to register as shipper from 12,500hl to 500hl. Many biggest almacenistas(such as El Maestro Sierra) become shipper and market their own wine under their brands.

These bodegas, also called “shipper” are the only permitted to export or sell DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry or DO Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda wine to the market.
They must be located in the Zonda de Crianza.
They are also permitted to mature the wine and have their own stock.
The wine from the almacenistas may be blended with the shipper’s own stock to make up volume and complexity. The wines are generally sold under their the shipper’s own brand. Lustau has had an almacenista range (branded by Lustau), feature wine by individual almacenistas and include their name of the label.

It is industrial organization in Sherry production. It is established in Spain in 1933.
It maintains all the vineyards register and sets parameters (such as maximum yields, minimum alcohol levels for base wine).
It oversees the rotation of stock in the bodegas.It verifies the authenticity of age-dated Sherries.It set legislation and labelling term of Sherry.It is major promotional body engaging in many forms of marketing.(such as organization of events, running educational courses.)It successfully campaigned “Sherry” to be only used for the wine of DO Jerez-Xèrés-Sherry and Manzanilla-Sanlucar de Barrameda in mid 1990s.(at least within EU)

It is industrial organization of wine production in Douro.It governs and represent the interest of wine producers in the Douro.It controls and supervise the production and trade of wine in the Douro, both unfortified wine and Port)
It hold the register of the vineyard, using the system named “ BENEFICIO”.In this system, it regulate the amount of Port production in any one year, classify each vineyard parcel considering various factors(aspect, soil) and give numeral value(A to I) which determine amount of port to be produced.It controls the volume of Port can be released onto the market in a year.(maximum one third of shipper’s total stocks)It analyses and tastes Port wine to ensure meeting the specification of the different legally defined port styles.
It has a role in the promotion of Port and unfortified wines from the Douro valley.

It is industrial organization of Madeira production.
It is founded in 2006.
It plays active role in monitoring Madeira stock and quality control.
Representative of IVBAM must be present at grape reception, at the beginning and ending of the ageing process of Madeira to seal and unseal the maturation vessel.
Tasting panel and laboratory of IVBAM check the profile of wine to be labelled with an age indication or vintage year.
Technicians from IVBAM visit to the grower on the island and give advice and support.
It also set the regulation as part of the production and labelling of Madeira.
