Define Culture:
It is shared by a group of people and is learned, dynamic, and can exist at an unconscious level and lead to biases
Primary vs. Secondary Culture
Primary: fixed characteristics (nationality)
Secondary: socioeconomic status, education
Two components of culture
Values: statement of principle, basis for moral decision making, social principles
Ritual: practices, services and procedures (ex. how you greet someone)
Cultural competency
dynamic process where an individual/organization finds meaningful healthcare delivery strategies based off of the knowledge of cultural heritage, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors of those we provide care to

Assuming common trend applies to an individual
Low Context Cultural Pattern
individualistic, verbal > non-verbal, individual achievement, change over tradition (Anglo Saxon derived)
High Context Cultural Pattern
Team oriented, non-verbal > verbal, tradition over change, respect for past (Many Asian cultures)
