Biomechanics Part 1 Flashcards
Biomechanics definition
the study of structure and function
Kinematics definition
describes the motion of the body without the how or why the body is moving; linear motion
Kinematics example
body’s center of mass, also where gravity is most concentrated
each segment of the body has a COM; all average to anterior to S2
Requirements for Angular/Rotational Motion
Requires fixed axis of rotation
Two kinds of motion
active (internal activation of m.) and passive (no activation of m. needed)
Osteokinematics definition
motion of a bone relative to its cardinal plane of motion
Proximal on distal example
hip on femoral ABB or ADD
Distal on proximal example
femoral on hip ABB or ADD
DOF for hinge joint?
arguably two
DOF for pivot joint
one
DOF for ball and socket joint
three
Arthrokinematics def.
motion between joint surfaces
Three different arthrokinematic motions:
roll, slide, and spin
Concave on Convex arthrokinematic motions compared to osteokinematics:
same direction
Convex on Concave arthrokinematic motions compared to osteokinematics:
opposite direction
