the processes that happen between individuals and groups within organizations and society, and that confer meaning and significance.

shared patterns of learned values and behaviors that are transmitted over time and that distinguish members of one group from another
What 3 factors need to be considered regarding culture?
- culture is fluid and dynamic, not static
- culture is experienced in relation to another
- culture must be considered within the historical, social, political, and economic constricts
what is race?
a group of people joined together by a common ancestry/hereditary traits.
What is enculturation?
the process by which people learn the requirements of their surrounding culture and acquire appropriate behaviors/values.
What is ethnicity?
a social group who identify with each other based on a common ancestral, social, cultural, or national experiences.
what is acculturation?
cultural change and psychological change that results after cultures interact
What is assimilation?
the process by which a person/group’s culture becomes like another groups
What is multiculturalism?
relates to communities containing multiple cultures.
What is ethnocentrism?
judging another culture solely by the values and standards of one’s own culture.
What is cultural imposition?
the forcing off values and standards on another person without consent. (forcing your culture on them)
What is stereotyping?
applying generalized views/opinions of a group even though it is not true for the whole.
What is discrimination?
prejudicial treatment of an individual based on their actual or perceived membership in a group/culture
What is racism?
discrimination based on believing that some races are inferior to others.
