CTG Flashcards
CTG assesses
foetal HR variability acclerations decellerations DRCBRAVADO
Accelerations are…
an abrupt increase in the baseline foetal heart rate of greater than 15 bpm for greater than 15seconds.
They are reassuring.
accelerations occuring alongside uterine contractions =
healthy foetus
decellerations are..
an abrupt decrease in the baseline foetal heart rate of greater than 15 bpm for greater than 15 seconds.
early decelleration =
begin at uterine contraction then stop - pressure increases vagal tone - so physiological.
variable decelleration =
variable in duration and may have no relationship with contractions. Often caused by umbilical cord compression. Mother changing position may resolve.
late decelleration =
begins at peak of the uterine contraction and recovers after contraction ends. This indicates insufficient blood flow to uterus and placenta > foetal hypoxia and acidosis > take foetal blood pH in case C-section is required!
Prolonged decelleration =
deceleration lasting longer than three minutes. Foetal blood sampling/ C-section!
