A

Acute viral infection, commonly parainfluenza viruses

How is croup managed?

A

Depending on severity:

  • Supportive therapy, hydration, and parental counselling
  • Airway support
  • Corticosteroids (oral dexamethasone or inhaled budesonide) or adrenaline
  • Abx only if secondary bacterial infection is suspected
