questions to ask for croup
A
age? refer in children aged under 3 months
tell me more about your symptoms? Difficult/painful breathing, especially on inhalation
Inspiratory stridor
Barking cough
is the cough productive? thick mucus
time it gets worse?
severity? mild can be treated but moderate to severe should be referred
associated symptoms? fever?
pmhx? refer if chronic lung disease, immunodeficiency, impending respiratory failure
fx? to rule out asthma
dx? to see if any medication interaction

A
Use of antipyretic for pain
avoid cough meds that can cause drowsiness
