crime is
an action that constitutes an offence and is punishable by law (damn law sounds like a really important guy)
from cards 2-6 is CAUSES OF CRIME
poverty- persons engage in illegal activities in order to access basic necessities or improve their standard of living
drug abuse-
persons engage in illegal activity to finance their addictions
insufficient education-
limited opportunities to access jobs or obtain employment to sustain oneself and family, therefore an individual resorts to illegal means to satisfy needs and wants
unemployment-
lack the financial resources to provide for self loved ones, as such, persons engage in criminal activities
vulnerability of disadvantaged youths-
many live in communities where crime is glorified and glamorized and youths are recruited by gang leaders
consequences of crime
- fear amongst the national public
- additional cost of providing health care and counselling for victims of crime
- loss of revenue for local business- closure of business at earlier times/ permanent closure of some
additional consequences
- additional cost of providing adequate policing and prison facilities
- an overburdened judicial system in which courts cannot handle the number of cases in a timely manner
- loss of national revenue from a drop in tourist arrivals- due to international travel advisories
- disruption of education caused by criminal activities at school
solutions part 1
avoidance of association with those involved in crime
crime prevention programmes should be created to target vulnerable youths
educational opportunities should be created to target at risk youths and incarcerated criminals
solutions part 2
employment opportunities should be created for at risk youths and rehabilitated criminals
improve crime prevention and crime detection rates by providing the resources required by police officers and those in law enforcement
