Cranial nerves Flashcards
occulomotor nerve
somatic motor: superior rectus, inferior rectus, medial rectus, inferior oblique
visceral motor: constrictor pupillae and cilliary muscles for accommodation and construction of pupil
trochlear nerve
superior oblique
abducens nerve
lateral rectus
V3 (mandibular)
sensory:
bottom 1/3 of face
anterior 2/3 tongue (lingual of V3)
parotid (auriculotemporal of V3 supplies parotid)
motor: • Muscles of mastication (temporalis, lat/med pterygoid, masseter) • Tensor tympani • Tensor veli palatini • Mylohyoid • Anterior digastric muscle belly
OPTHALMIC NERVE (V1)
sensory of upper 1/3 face
corneal reflex
inferior alveolar nerve
most often blocked in dental anaesthesia
lingual nerve
most likely to get blocked wen dental anaesthesia is administered on patient
where does ophthalmic exit?
superior orbital fissure
where does V2 maxillary exit?
foramen rotundem
where does V3 mandibular exit?
foramen ovale
facial nerve
somatic motor: muscles of facial expression, posterior digastric muscle belly, stylohyoid, stapedius of middle ear
visceral motor:
salivary (submandibular, sublingual) and lacrimal glands. PNS
Sensory:
taste to anterior 2/3 of tongue (chorda tympani of facial nerve, joins with lingual nerve)
Tympanic membrane, behind the ear, concha skin
course of facial nerve
Internal acoustic meatus and through stylomastoid foramen
vestibulococohlear nerve
balance
hearing
glossopharnygeal nerve
Sensory-somatic + visceral+ special -external ear, taste and normal sensory to post 1/3 tongue, middle ear, carotid sinus
motor- stylopharyngeus, PNS to parotid
vagus nerve
sensory:
somatic- auricle,
visceral- back of tongue, pharynx/layrnx, stomach, oesophagus, heart,
special- ( taste) epiglottis,
motor:
somatic: muscles of pharynx (except stylopharyngeus),
visceral: PNS to trachea, GI tract, heart
