Facial Bones
14 bones (6 paired and 2 single)
Name the 14 facial bones
- 6 paired: Maxllae, zygomatic, lacrimal, nasal, inferior nasal concha, and palatine
- 2 single: mandible and vomer
Parietal Bones
2 bones, superior lateral walls of cranial cavity
Temporal Bones
2 bones, inferior lateral walls of cranial cavity and houses organs of inner ear
What are the features of the temporal bone
External auditory meatus, zygomatic process, styloid process, mastoid process, and mandibular fossa OF THE TEMPORAL BONE
Frontal Bone
1 bone, Anterior portion of cranial cavity
What are the features of the frontal bone
Supraorbital foramen OF THE FRONTAL BONE
Occipital Bone
1 bone - posterior wall of the cranial cavity
What are the features of the occipital bone
Foramen magnum, external occipital protuberance and occipital condyles OF THE OCCIPITAL BONE
Ethmoid Bone
1 bone - floor and anterior wall of cranial cavity
What are the features of the ethmoid bone
Crista galli, cribriform plate, olfactory foramen, superior nasal concha, middle nasal concha and the perpendicular plate OF THE ETHMOID BONE
Sphenoid Bone
1 sphenoid bone - serves to untie the cranial and facial bones, acting as a keystone to strengthen the lateral walls of the cranium
