A
most deep layer of epidermis, constantly divides to make more squamous skin cells

Where does it occur?
A
face, neck, ears, shoulders, and back (high sun exposure areas)

Variations of basal cell carcinoma
A
- nodular = 60-80% of all cases, elevated/ pearl shaped nodule
- cystic
- sclerodermiform
- infiltrated
- superficial

Diagnosis
A
- skin biopsy

Treatments
A
- surgery to cut it out
- freezing w liquid nitrogen
- curettage and electrodessication (scraping and electricity)
- mohs surgery (removed layer by layer)

Complications
A
recurrence, disfiguration, metastasize

Prevention
A
Avoid sun, apply sunscreen, cover up
