Q

State 4 steps in cracking liquid paraffin

A

porous pot heated strongly
liquid paraffin heated and evaporates
paraffin vapour passes over hot porous pot and the hydrocarbon molecules break down
product is ethene gas

Q

Explain why cracking is necessary

A

Some fractions in crude oil arent in as much demand as petrol/diesel .
This means that fuel such as fuel oil /bitumen can be cracked to make petrol/diesel bc it is not in much demand

Q

briefly explain what cracking involves

A
vaporised hydrocarbons passed over powered catalyst
