What are the S&S of DKA?
A
any patient with:
- pre-existing history of diabetes
- BGL >11 and
- clinical features of DKA
- > confusion, signs of dehydration, Kussmaul’s breathing

What are the S&S of Hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state (HHS)?
A
- typically older pt’s
- Have high BGL >30
- do not present with features of DKA such as kussmauls breathing

What are the clinical features of DKA/HSS?
A
- dehydration
- tachypnoea
- Polydipsia
- Polyphagia
- Polyuria
- Kussmauls breathing
- Hx diabetes

Q
What is the treatment for a pt with BGL >11?
A
Normal saline 20ml/kg titrated to perfusion status
- > consult if further doses required
- consider reduced volume for old or pts with renal failure
- consider antiemeteic
