How do you prepare Ceftriaxone?
A
Dilute ceftriaxone 1g with 9.5mL of Water for injection and administer 1g IV over 2 mins
If unable to obtain IV access:
- dilute Ceftriaxone 1g with 3.5mL 1& Lignocaine HCL and administer 1g IM

what are the S&S of meningococcal septicaemia?
A
Purpuric rash
Septicaemia signs:
- Fever, rigor, joint and muscle pain
- cold hands/feet
- tachycardia
- hypotension
- tachypnoea
Meningeal signs:
- Headache
- photophobia
- neck stiffness
- Nausea and vomiting
- altered consciousness

How do you treat meningococcal septicaemia?
A
IV ACCESS:
- Ceftriaxone 1g IV
- > dilute with water for injection to make 10ml
- > administer over 2 mins
NO IV ACCESS:
- Ceftriaxone 1g IM
- Dilute with 3.5ml 1% Lignocaine HCL to make 4 ml

Ceftriaxone 50mg/kg (max 1000mg)
Dilute 1000mg with 3.5 mL Lignocaine 1%
