undifferentiated nausea and vomiting causes may include what?
- secondary to cardiac chest pain
- secondary to opioid analgesia
- secondary to cytotoxic drugs or radiotherapy
- severe gastro
What is the preferred treatment for N&V in pregnant patients?
Fluid rehydration
When is ondans not the choice of antiemetic?
in people suffering N&V following Tramadol administration as it will reduce the effect of the analgesia
what do you need to assess for as differentials with N&V?
- N&V
- Spinal injury
- eye trama
- motion sickness
- vertigo
What is the treatment for undifferentiated nausea and vomiting?
Ondans 4mg oral
- repeat 4mg @5-10min
- > max 8mg
IF UNABLE TO TOLERATE ORAL
- Ondans 8mg IV
IF allergy or Contraindicated to ondans
Prochlorperazine 12.5mg IM
What is the treatment if the undifferentiated N&V is accompanied by dehydration?
Less than adequate perfusion:
- NS IV max 40ml/kg
- > consult for additional fluid
- > if consult unavailable administer 20ml/kg (total 60ml/kg)
Adequate perfusion but significant dehydration:
- NS 20ml/kg iver 30 mins
What is the treatment for Vestibular nausea
If pt over 21 - prochlorperazine 12.5mg IM
if pt under 21 - Ondans
What conditions fo you provide prophylaxis for? and what is the treatment?
- awake with spinal injuries
- eye trauma
Treatment:
Ondans 4mg oral or 8mg IV
Or prochlorerazine if allergic or C/I

oral rehydration
